The KYHAM Listserv

The KYHAM listserv is open to all who are interested in amateur radio in Kentucky. The primary mission of the mailing list is for individuals and organizations from all reaches of the state can share local club news, information on upcoming events, emergency communications information, net information, or any other topic concerning amateur radio in general, and Kentucky in particular. The listserv is free for all regardless of membership in any amateur radio organization.

For those not familiar with listservs, they are a powerful tool to allow subscribers to post information that will be received by all other subscribers within a structured environment. The listserv is thoughtfully managed, and every possible effort is made to maintain its reputation as a quality source of Kentucky amateur radio information. You must be subscribed to the list to post messages to it.

You must read the following before subscribing to KYHAM.

Rules and Standards of Decorum on KYHAM
  • Stay on the topic of amateur radio. This is a special interest email community, and persons subscribing to KYHAM do so only to receive amateur radio information.
  • Likewise, no SPAM, junk mail, forwarded letters from other people about topics that have nothing to do with amateur radio. This includes virus warnings, pleas for action, and/or other scams. Any subscriber who does SPAM the listserv will be immediately removed from KYHAM, without appeal, or recourse.
  • Respect the opinions of those posting. No flames, fights, or otherwise negative behavior will be permitted. Feel free to disagree with someone's opinion and debate the issue, but do not attack the person holding the opinion over the listserv.
  • You may not post or forward the contents of a private email conversation to KYHAM without the express permission of all parties involved in that private email exchange.
  • Let the administrator do his job. If someone does something against the rules, do not compound the problem correcting the other user. I will handle all problems quickly and privately. Not following this rule will entitle you to a personal conversation with the list admin as well.
  • You may post personal buy/sell/trade items, the results from your on-air amateur radio trader's nets, or estate sales to the listserv. Commercial or dealer items are NOT permitted, however.
  • Please be considerate about reposting emails that are already mass-distributed such as the ARRL Letter. Many people already receive these notices direct from the source. Also, if you are thinking about posting a particular message to several different listservs, keep in mind that many people subscribe to more than one listserv. Some users may frown on you for doing so.
  • KYHAM is an extension of the KY amateur radio community. This community grows every day. Keep in mind there are many new members who may not be accustomed to operating on a listserv. Help them learn by example by being a good sport, and obeying the rules. Just list welcoming them to the airwaves.
Technical Considerations to Think About
  • KYHAM strips out most formatting (HTML and Rich Text) and file attachments.
  • When subscribing to KYHAM, consider using your primary email account instead of an "alias" email forwarding address. Acting as a "middleman" the alias system can create hurdles due to SPAM filters, etc. It is best to "go direct."
  • Sometime users will post the same message to different listservs and wonder why one shows up before the other. This is largely due to mail load, SPAM filtering and anti-virus software on the different servers.
Legal and Privacy Statement
